What is the PLiXiR Elite BAC 2000 MK II?

The PLiXiR Elite BAC 2000 MK II is a fully symmetrical, balanced AC power conditioner from the Singaporean PLiXiR. The model sits between the BAC 1500 MK II and the BAC 3000 MK II.

PLiXiR describes the BAC 2000 MK II as a lighter, easier-to-handle variant of the BAC 3000 MK II. It is intended for installations that require more capacity than the BAC 1500 MK II can optimally provide.

With 2000 W maximum and 1400 W continuous power, this model is suitable for a medium to large stereo installation. Think of an integrated amplifier or a pre- and power amplifier combination, supplemented with a DAC, streamer and other sources. Whether your entire installation is suitable depends on the power consumption of all connected devices.

Balanced mains power conditioner: how does it work?

A balanced mains power conditioner uses a transformer with a symmetrical output. The two power conductors are at equal, opposite voltages relative to ground. PLiXiR uses this principle to reduce noise through the mains power supply and the grounding of connected equipment.

Why symmetrical power supply lowers the noise floor

The idea of symmetry is comparable to that of a balanced signal connection, but the application and electrical operation are not identical. In the Elite BAC MK II, the transformer windings are more precisely matched to each other. This improves noise suppression and lowers the natural noise floor. In addition, one experiences more dynamics and a more natural rendering of details.

Mains conditioning is not the same as surge protection

The BAC 2000 MK II uses a balanced transformer as the core of its mains conditioning. Do not automatically consider a mains power conditioner as surge or lightning protection.

Noratel XQ transformer: the core of the BAC 2000 MK II

What does XQ mean?

The fully symmetrical transformer is built by Noratel according to PLiXiR specifications. XQ stands for Extra Quiet and refers to Noratel's proprietary magnetic core material.

According to PLiXiR, this material offers the lowest hum and vibration of the cores they have tested, along with strong isolation against DC components in the mains network.

Magnetic shielding and winding technique

The MK II design has more precisely matched transformer windings and integrated external magnetic shielding. That shielding is intended to reduce magnetic leakage flux and improve the damping of the transformer. The design goal is a lower noise floor and a purer rendering.

High-end audio power conditioner: build quality

Aluminium vault enclosure

The enclosure consists of thick, precisely extruded and CNC-machined aluminium parts. The design has fewer connections than the original Elite BAC enclosure. An 8 mm aluminium base plate forms the solid foundation of the device.

Bfly Audio Pure feet and OFC wiring

The Elite BAC MK II series uses custom-made Bfly Audio Pure isolation feet from Germany. The multi-layer composite construction is intended to limit vibrations from the device itself and the environment. The internal wiring consists of OFC copper wire designed by PLiXiR.

Each device is built by hand. Where possible, electrical connections are soldered directly, with as few intermediate connectors as possible. The founder and chief designer James Soh performs the final quality control and sound tuning.

Optional mains cables: PLiXiR THE STATEMENT and Supreme

Complete your installation with a mains cable from PLiXiR's own range. THE STATEMENT and Supreme use a balanced cable architecture and are offered for high-end audio applications. The Supreme is the flagship of the cable range.

Optional mains cable

PLiXiR THE STATEMENT with Furutech FI-31

THE STATEMENT uses thick, ultra-pure copper conductors, a symmetrical conductor construction and FI-E11 Copper connector.

The FI-31 is an IEC C19 connector and fits the IEC C20 input of the conditioner.

Optional top choice

PLiXiR Supreme Balanced AC Power Cable

For those who want to use the highest cable series of PLiXiR, the Supreme Balanced AC Power Cable is the optional top choice. According to PLiXiR, this cable forms the most advanced development of the proprietary balanced AC cable architecture.

The Supreme uses UPOCC copper conductors and high-quality Furutech Fl-46 NCF Copper. The FI-31 is an IEC C19 connector and fits the IEC C20 input of the conditioner.

For those striving for the very best result

THE STATEMENT is a high-quality cable option for use with the BAC 2000 MK II. Those who want to use the highest cable series within the PLiXiR range choose the Supreme Balanced AC Power Cable. Which cable fits your installation depends on your equipment, available space, desired length and budget.

What does 'balanced' mean for a mains cable?

With these mains cables, 'balanced' refers to the cable construction. The cable itself does not make a symmetrical supply voltage: that happens in the transformer of the BAC power conditioner.

Which power amplifier fits the BAC 2000 MK II?

For stereo power amplifiers at 4 ohms, the following selection guidelines are followed:

Amplifier class Amplifier power guideline at 4 ohms
Class A 120 W
Class AB 400 W
Class D 600 W

These values are selection guidelines and should not be confused with the power consumption of the amplifier. The total power consumption of all connected devices must remain within the available 1400 W continuous.

If in doubt, have it assessed how the guideline applies to your specific amplifier. Especially with class A amplifiers, two monoblocks or multiple power amplifiers, an assessment of the entire installation is important.

Send us the brand and model of your amplifier and the other connected equipment, then we will assess which BAC model fits your installation.

BAC 1500 MK II, BAC 2000 MK II or BAC 3000 MK II?

Feature BAC 1500 MK II BAC 2000 MK II BAC 3000 MK II
Positioning Medium systems Medium to large systems Highest power capacity of these three
Maximum power 1500 W 2000 W 3000 W
Continuous power 1000 W 1400 W 2000 W
Weight 26 kg* 34 kg 45 kg*

*Check the weight of the delivered version. For the BAC 1500 MK II and BAC 3000 MK II, deviating weight specifications occur on sales pages.

The BAC 2000 MK II forms the intermediate step for installations that require more capacity than the BAC 1500 MK II offers, but for which the larger BAC 3000 MK II is not necessary.

How do you distribute your equipment over the five outputs?

The five Schuko outputs share the capacity of the conditioner: 2000 W maximum and 1400 W continuous. The classifications below are examples and not an approval for every combination.

System Output 1 Output 2 Output 3 Output 4 Output 5
Integrated amplifier Amplifier DAC Streamer Cd player Turntable power supply or reserve
Pre- and power amplifier Power amplifier Pre-amplifier DAC Streamer Phono pre-amplifier or reserve
Two monoblocks Monoblock left Monoblock right Pre-amplifier DAC Streamer

Especially with two monoblocks, the combined power consumption must be checked. The guidelines for stereo power amplifiers do not automatically apply to each monoblock individually.
