DFL AirCore Reference CNT S/PDIF Digital Interconnect

A different approach to digital: the DFL AirCore Reference CNT combines 120 carbon nanotube filaments with a Teflon AirCore construction and additional carbon EMI/RF shielding. Designed for the digital connection between transport and DAC.

Not a further refinement of a conventional metal signal conductor, but a CNT signal core with its own geometry. DFL combines conductor, dielectric, mechanical stabilization, and shielding in a single design focused on digital signal integrity.

120 CNT filaments for digital signal transmission

The digital core consists of 120 parallel carbon nanotube filament strands. Instead of a conventional copper or silver conductor, DFL uses a bundle of fine carbon structures with low conductor mass.

The design focuses on preserving pulse and timing information, with attention to electrical loading, reflections, geometric stability, and high-frequency interference.

AirCore insulation and carbon shielding

Insulation

Air, Teflon, and silk

The CNT conductor is mechanically stabilized with natural silk and runs through a Teflon air tube. Air forms an important part of the dielectric.

According to DFL, this construction is designed for low capacitive loading, minimal dielectric energy storage, and preservation of fast signal transitions.

Shielding

Additional carbon EMI/RF shielding

The AirCore construction is surrounded by additional carbon shielding. DFL uses this layer to limit external interference and help absorb high-frequency energy around the signal core.

The shielding is part of the complete digital cable design.

AECO RCA connectors

The interlink is fitted with AECO RCA connectors made of tellurium copper. The contact parts have an extra-thick layer of 120 µinch pure silver, without a nickel underlayer.

  • Low-mass connector construction.
  • Tellurium copper contacts with pure silver plating.
  • Nickel-free finish.
  • Specified contact resistance: less than 0.3 mΩ.

Listening experience

DFL strives for a digital connection that is as transparent as possible between the source and DAC. Listeners experience, among other things, a quieter background, more accurate instrument placement, spatial layering, and natural microdynamics.

The starting point is the preservation of subtle information and clearly defined transients, without deliberately adding a warmer or brighter tonal character.

Length

The standard length is 80 cm. Other lengths are available on request.
