PLiXiR Elite BDC MKII Dual Output – two DC outputs, more power capacity

Give not one, but two suitable components a high-quality power supply foundation. The PLiXiR Elite BDC MKII Dual Output combines a balanced linear design with two DC outputs and a 5 A continuous current capacity. An attractive solution for those who want to address the power supply of a complete source combination or a part of the streaming chain.

Think of a compatible streamer and DAC, or a network switch and media converter that need the same supply voltage. You replace two separate adapters with one central power supply, without having to place two separate linear power supplies directly.

The Dual Output is available with a fixed output voltage of 5, 7.5, 9, 12, 15, or 19 V DC. You choose the version that suits your devices. Two one-meter Elementa DC cables are included as standard.

Why Dual Output is a solution

A digital audio chain often consists of multiple devices, each with its own adapter. If you want to give two of those components a better power supply foundation, that does not automatically mean you need two separate power supplies. The Elite BDC MKII Dual Output brings two suitable DC connections together in one enclosure.

This makes the upgrade more manageable: one power supply to place, one mains connection to take care of, and two direct DC connections to your equipment. With this, you can replace two standard adapters and at the same time increase the available power supply capacity compared to the 3A Single Output.

  • Power two suitable components from one central power supply.
  • Replace two separate external adapters.
  • One mains connection instead of two separate mains-powered power supplies.
  • 5 A continuous current capacity instead of 3 A in the Single Output versions up to and including 19 V.
  • Two DC cables included as standard.
  • Also interesting when you use one output for now and want to add a second compatible component later.

Dual Output does not mean that you can freely set two different voltages. The standard version is offered with one chosen output voltage. Therefore, select a combination of devices that both suit that voltage. Do not treat the 5 A as 5 A per output and have the full load checked beforehand.

More current capacity, more possibilities

The 5A Dual Output offers more available current capacity at the same output voltage than the 3A Single Output. This is relevant when two devices together ask for more current than the smaller version can deliver, or when a selected component requires a higher current capacity.

That capacity makes the power supply more versatile, but does not mean that a connected device continuously draws 5 A. The device uses the current it needs. The correct supply voltage and sufficient capacity remain the starting points.

What does this mean in watts?

The available DC power depends on the chosen voltage. Based on voltage multiplied by the stated current capacity, a 12V/5A version comes out to 60 W and a 19V/5A version to 95 W. These are calculated DC capacities of the power supply, not values per output and not a statement of the power drawn from the socket.

More capacity is primarily functional headroom. It is by itself no guarantee of a sonically better reproduction than a smaller power supply that already provides more than enough.

A quality step without replacing your devices

You have carefully selected your DAC, streamer, and network components. Yet their power supply is often left to standard external adapters. There can be an opportunity to get more out of your existing equipment.

A dedicated linear power supply focuses on the power supply foundation of the device. When the original adapter forms a limiting factor, a targeted upgrade can provide a meaningful step in reproduction quality. With the Dual Output, you can apply that approach to two suitable components.

The goal is not to artificially enhance the music, but to limit unwanted electrical interference. In this way, you give the connected equipment a carefully designed starting point for its own performance.

From two switching adapters to one linear power supply

Many DACs, streamers, routers, and network switches use an SMPS: a switched-mode power supply, or switching power supply. These adapters are compact and efficient, but the high-frequency switching process can cause electrical noise.

The Elite BDC MKII opts for a balanced linear power supply architecture, with focused attention on filtering, rectification, voltage regulation, and grounding. The complete design is decisive: not only the choice for a linear power supply.

A more natural, organic musical image as a goal

With a convincing power supply upgrade, it is about more than extra detail. Calmness, timbre, dynamics, and musical coherence together determine how natural a recording comes across.

According to PLiXiR, the Elite BDC MKII offers a lower noise floor, more dynamics, and more body in the reproduction compared to the original Elite BDC. This aligns with the pursuit of a smoother and more organic musical image, without details becoming detached from the musical performance.

Pay attention during a comparison:

  • Background calm: do soft passages and small nuances remain easy to follow?
  • Timbre: do voices and instruments retain their character and texture?
  • Dynamics: are differences in attack and intensity convincing?
  • Spaciousness: do voices and instruments retain a clear place in the recording?
  • Coherence: does the presentation remain one musical performance?

Which combinations are interesting?

Dual Output is especially attractive when two components need the same DC voltage and together fit within the capacity of the power supply. The combinations below are examples, not a universal compatibility guarantee.

Digital source combination

Streamer and DAC

Give both the digital source and the converter a high-quality power supply foundation. A logical combination when both devices use external DC power with the same voltage.

Also check whether the manufacturer imposes limitations on sharing a power supply between digitally connected devices.

Streaming network

Network switch and media converter

Bring the power supply of two suitable network components together in one enclosure. This can be practical in a streaming setup with a switch and fiber-optic media converter.

The power supply upgrade does not change the network protocol or the digital content. A sonically audible effect is not a given.

Digital interfaces

DAC and USB interface

A suitable USB interface, reclocker, or digital-to-digital converter can be connected alongside a DAC when both power requirements match.

Pay attention to the prescribed handling of the power connection via USB with USB equipment.

Compact audio system

DAC and headphone amplifier

An overview power supply solution for a compact listening place, provided both devices have a suitable external DC input with the same voltage.

Check the combined current demand, the polarity, and the mutual signal connections.

The Dual Output is not a solution to directly power a 5V device and a 12V device from one standard voltage variant. AC low-voltage inputs, direct mains voltage inputs, and PoE connections are also not suitable for direct connection.

Refined MKII technology

The Elite BDC MKII benefits from insights from the PLiXiR Statement BDC series. A larger capacitor capacity, an improved internal layout, and the proprietary Star+Ground design have been developed to further refine the power supply performance.

Balanced power supply architecture

The balanced AC design forms the basis and is aimed at limiting unwanted interference, including ground loop and rectifier-related noise. Then the voltage is rectified and regulated for the connected DC equipment.

Two-stage voltage regulation

The first regulation stage takes care of an important part of the filtering and heat load. This allows the next regulation stage to work under more favorable conditions. According to PLiXiR, the construction also helps to limit the feedback of interference to the mains power supply.

Solid aluminum construction

The aluminum enclosure provides a solid foundation and also functions as a heatsink for the power supply. According to the manufacturer, the 5A version weighs 4.5 kg and measures 16 × 24 × 7.9 cm, including the feet.

Voltage variants and available capacity

The Dual Output is available with a fixed output voltage up to and including 19 V DC. The calculated powers below are based on the chosen voltage multiplied by 5 A. They do not apply per output.

Fixed output voltage Continuous current capacity Calculated DC power DC outputs
5 V DC 5 A 25 W 2
7.5 V DC 5 A 37.5 W 2
9 V DC 5 A 45 W 2
12 V DC 5 A 60 W 2
15 V DC 5 A 75 W 2
19 V DC 5 A 95 W 2

The voltage variants are separate versions. The table does not mean that the voltage is adjustable or that both outputs deliver 5 A each. At a high load, also confirm the allowed current per connector and cable.

Single Output or Dual Output?

Feature Single Output up to 19 V Dual Output up to 19 V
DC outputs 1 2
Continuous current capacity 3 A 5 A

Calculated DC power at 19 V 57 W 95 W
Included DC cables 1 × Elementa of 1 meter 2 × Elementa of 1 meter
Logical application One suitable device within the capacity Two suitable devices, or an application that requires more capacity

Choose Dual Output when you want to connect two suitable components or need more current capacity. Do not choose solely on the number of outputs: the power requirements and mutual connections of your devices remain decisive.

A complete power supply chain: AC and two DC connections

One mains cable provides the AC connection to the Elite BDC MKII. From the power supply, a separate DC cable runs to each connected device. You can upgrade these connections separately.

Wall socket or suitable conditioner AC mains cable Elite BDC MKII Dual Output
DC output 1 DC cable 1 Component 1
DC output 2 DC cable 2 Component 2

A DC upgrade applies to the chosen device connection. If you want to replace both standard DC cables, you need two suitable upgrade cables. One optional mains cable provides the connection of the power supply as a whole.

Optional DC upgrades: Statement and Statement MK II

By default, you receive two PLiXiR Elementa DC cables. If you want to further refine the connection to one or both devices, the Statement DC Power Cable and the Statement DC Power Cable MK II are optional follow-up steps.

Optional DC upgrade

PLiXiR The Statement DC Power Cable

The Statement DC cable was developed as an upgrade over the Elementa. Silver-plated copper conductors, Teflon insulation, and double shielding form the basis of the design.

  • Silver-plated copper conductors.
  • Teflon insulation.
  • Shielding with Mylar foil and silver-plated copper braid.
  • Suitable power connector and 2.1- or 2.5mm device plug.

According to PLiXiR, the sonic pursuit is more transparency, body, and focus. Tune each cable separately to the device you want to connect.

Further refined DC upgrade

PLiXiR The Statement DC Power Cable MK II

The MK II refines both the conductors and shielding as well as the connectors. High-purity silver-plated UPOCC copper in a multi-solid-core construction is combined with Teflon insulation.

  • Silver-plated UPOCC copper conductors.
  • Multi-solid-core construction.
  • Thicker conductors and more extensive shielding.
  • Extra copper foil shield.
  • Proprietary PLiXiR connectors with gold-plated, fully copper contacts and Teflon insulation.
  • Lengths of 1, 1.5, and 2 meters.

According to PLiXiR, the MK II offers a lower noise floor, more body, and a more refined layer reproduction and dynamics compared to the original Statement DC cable.

Match connectors per device

Choose the PLiXiR GX16-4 version on the power supply side for the Statement DC MK II. A GX16-4 cable for another power supply brand is not automatically interchangeable: the pin layout must also match.

The two connected devices may have different DC plug sizes or polarity requirements, even when they use the same voltage. Therefore, have both cable configurations checked.

The Statement DC cables are optional and only included in an explicitly stated bundle. A cable upgrade does not increase the output voltage or current capacity of the power supply. The mentioned sonic benefits are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee for every installation.

Optional mains cables: FIERY, STATEMENT, and Supreme

You can also carefully fill in the connection between the mains and your Elite BDC MKII. PLiXiR offers three AC cable series: THE FIERY, THE STATEMENT, and Supreme. You choose the version that suits your installation, placement space, and budget.

Optional mains cable

PLiXiR THE FIERY

THE FIERY is the entry-level mains cable in this series. The design combines a balanced conductor construction with flexibility and attention to shielding.

An interesting entry point if you want to upgrade the mains connection of your power supply in addition to the DC connections.

Optional higher cable series

PLiXiR THE STATEMENT

THE STATEMENT is the next step in the PLiXiR AC cable line. A balanced cable architecture is combined with ultra-pure copper conductors and Furutech connectors.

A suitable option for those who want to further refine the power supply around the Elite BDC MKII.

Optional flagship

PLiXiR Supreme Balanced AC Power Cable

The Supreme is the flagship of the PLiXiR AC cable line. It combines UPOCC copper conductors with high-quality Furutech connectors and the most advanced implementation of the proprietary balanced cable architecture.

The top choice for those who want to complete the mains connection at the highest level within the PLiXiR cable range.

Choose the right mains plug and device connector

For a Dutch installation, choose a suitable European version with a Schuko mains plug. Match the device connector to the power input of the supplied Dual Output. Not every internationally available cable variant comes with a European mains plug as standard.

A confirmed IEC C14 input requires an IEC C13 cable connector. An IEC C19 version for a C20 input is therefore not interchangeable. Have the correct combination confirmed before ordering.

‘Balanced’ refers to the cable architecture

A balanced mains cable does not create a symmetrical mains voltage itself. The term here refers to the internal conductor construction, not to a voltage conversion by the cable.

FIERY, STATEMENT and Supreme are optional additions. They are only included when this is explicitly stated with the offered bundle. A higher cable series does not guarantee an audibly better result in every installation.

How to check your combination

  • Check that both devices use an external DC power supply.
  • Choose one output voltage that exactly suits both devices.
  • Have the combined power demand checked, including any startup peaks.
  • Confirm the allowed load per output, connector and cable for applications with a high power demand.
  • Check the full plug size and polarity for each device.
  • Take into account the signal and ground connections between the connected components.
  • Choose the correct mains voltage variant and suitable mains cable.

If in doubt, the brand and model of both devices, together with the data from their original adapters, are the best starting point for a suitable selection.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose Dual Output?

You can connect two suitable devices directly to one high-quality power supply. This saves the placement of two separate power supplies and offers 5 A current capacity instead of 3 A with the Single Output up to 19 V.

Does each output deliver 5 A?

Do not assume that. The manufacturer lists the Dual Output as a 5A power supply with two outputs, not as two times 5 A. Have the combined load and any output or connector limits confirmed.

Can I choose two different voltages?

Not with the standard version described here. You choose one fixed voltage variant of 5, 7.5, 9, 12, 15 or 19 V DC. The power supply is not offered as two freely adjustable voltage outputs.

Is the Dual Output available as a 24V version?

This description concerns the 5A Dual Output series up to 19 V. The previously mentioned 24V/2A version belongs to the Single Output and is not included in these Dual Output specifications.

Can I use one output for now?

You do not need to utilize both outputs. This makes the Dual Output interesting when you want to add a second compatible component later. Do have the allowed current per connection confirmed for a high load on one output.

Are the two outputs completely isolated from each other?

Two connections are by themselves not a confirmation of galvanic isolation or two completely independent regulation circuits. Do not treat these properties as given without additional technical confirmation from PLiXiR.

Can I power a streamer and DAC together?

That can be a suitable application when both devices need the same DC voltage, the combined current demand fits and connections and polarity are correct. Also check any regulations for sharing a power supply.

Why is more current capacity useful?

More capacity may be needed for two devices together or for a device with a higher current demand. It does not mean that every connected device gets more current than it needs or automatically sounds better.

What does 19 V and 5 A mean in power?

Voltage times current gives 95 W calculated DC capacity. That is not a value per output and also not a statement of the power consumption from the wall outlet.

Are two DC cables included?

Yes. The manufacturer lists two PLiXiR Elementa DC cables of each one meter, with a choice of a 2.1 or 2.5mm device plug. Have the connection for each device matched.

How many DC upgrade cables do I need?

One per device connection that you want to upgrade. If you want to replace both Elementa cables, you need two suitable Statement or Statement MK II DC cables.

Which mains cables can I choose optionally?

PLiXiR THE FIERY, THE STATEMENT and Supreme Balanced AC Power Cable. One mains cable provides the connection of the Dual Output as a whole. Choose a European version with IEC C13 plug.

Is this a replacement for a BAC power conditioner?

No. A BDC delivers direct current for suitable DC equipment. A BAC conditions alternating current for mains-powered devices. The connections and applications differ.

Is an audible improvement guaranteed?

The added value depends on the original adapters, the connected equipment and the installation. Compare the power supply and any cable upgrades carefully with known music.
